Man accused of stealing sheriff’s office Humvee, leading officials on multi-county chase

GRAHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — One man has been identified as the suspect of a multi-county chase through Western North Carolina.

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office says the county’s 911 Center received a call around 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, from someone stating “an army looking van with orange tag” had run into the Robbinsville Health Mart Pharmacy, then headed toward Tallulah.

Officials say once officers arrived on scene, they quickly discovered the “van” in question had been the Graham County Sheriff’s Office Humvee, “which is primarily used in the winter months during inclement weather to reach area where normal patrol suv’s cannot access,” a press release from the sheriff’s office states.
