“They may not come home.” Cleveland officer’s spouse worries with recent police deaths

People in Tennessee and Georgia are coping with two officers killed in the line of duty within the last four days.

So far in 2019, 65 officers have been killed in the line of duty. The majority have been shot and killed. That’s the highest percentage for gun-related deaths in five years, according to the National Officer Down Memorial Records.

A difficult reality spouses like Amanda Massengill have to live with.

“Every time they go to work, they may not come home,” said Massengill.

Massengill understood the risks when she married her husband Dewaun five years ago. He’s an officer with the Cleveland Police Department.
