According to the complaint filed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the teen was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry reported stolen from Sidney in Shelby County. While driving on Interstate 75 south, the teen was clocked going 98 mph in a 65 mph zone near mile marker 38 in Franklin Twp. After the car pulled over near mile marker 36, the teen sped off as the trooper approached the car and a high-speed chase ensued.

The teen was accused of driving at speeds of more than 100 mph before crashing into a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox at Central Avenue and Bellemonte Street, causing injuries to himself and those in the other car. The teen and driver of the Equinox were taken to Atrium Medical Center where they were admitted. The passenger in the Equinox was treated and released.
