According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol that handled the case, Gather was driving at a high rate of speed along Cleveland Avenue and Lehner Road and nearly hit a school bus that was stopped to let the children get off. Lieutenant Michael Akers with OSHP, said its in situations like this that drivers don’t realize how quickly they can turn their cars into a weapon and put others in danger.

“Most cars are 3,500 to 4,000 pounds and if they’re traveling at any speed limit either if it’s 25 or 45 it can be a very dangerous weapon especially if you’re talking about a pedestrian and even worse a child trying to exit a school bus,” said Lt. Akers.

Neighbors told us they’re glad no one was hurt, especially since the neighborhood is filled with children. Signs are posted all along Lehner Road. Gather’s defense attorney asked the judge for leniency.
