Arkansas prison officials say 48-year-old Michael Spurlock, who pleaded guilty to the shooting of then-Arkansas State Police Cpl. Robert Meek in 2006, was found dead in his cell at Tucker maximum security prison last Saturday.
Spurlock had been serving a life sentence for the shooting that Monday night, April 3, 2006.
It was about 8:40 that night and Meek was northbound on Highway 62/65, approaching the bridge just north of Bellefonte. He saw a southbound car passing another and checked the speed with radar.
