When to chase?

By: journalpatriot.com

A high-speed pursuit on Jan. 9 that ended with a 26-year-old man on a motorcycle wrecking and dying on U.S. 421 west of Wilkesboro raised questions that often arise – especially when a chase results in a loss of life.

The westbound chase began about 6 p.m. when an N.C. Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop the motorcycle operator for speeding on U.S. 421 and the wreck occurred near the South Minton Road intersection.

No additional information has been released as the SBI investigates the incident at the request of the Highway Patrol, but there is evidence of  the motorcycle going the wrong way in the eastbound lanes during at least part of the chase. The two troopers who pursued the motorcycle are on administrative duty pending an internal investigation.
