Cops broke the rules in high-speed chase that left teen dead

A high-speed police chase. A dead teenager. And now, five days without pay for the officers who broke the rules.

The Coconut Creek cops tried in December 2017 to get a potentially impaired and dangerous driver off the road.

But Officers Rocco Favata, Chris Lewis, David Morales and Cristian Salas went on to do several things wrong. They failed to immediately tell dispatchers about their high-speed, 77-second chase, and they tried to block in the Buick LaSabre they were tailing — without first getting permission from supervisors who had no idea what was going on, newly released police records show.
