Fairfield police dog survives stabbing by suspect who was shot to death

A Fairfield police dog that was stabbed by a man suspected of attempted murder and arson in Vacaville is expected to recover, authorities said Thursday.
After stabbing two people and setting a house on fire in the 1200 block of Alderwood Way on Monday evening, suspect Nathaniel Holland fled to a wooded creek area with a knife, police said. As officers with the California Highway Patrol and Vacaville and Fairfield police departments tried to arrest him, Holland allegedly stabbed the K9, named Cort, multiple times.
