Gunman Who Targeted NYPD Officers Gets 20 Years to Life

NEW YORK — A gunman was sentenced to 20 years to life Wednesday for targeting NYPD officers — one of whom survived because of his bulletproof vest — during a wild Brooklyn chase.
Frederick “Jamal Funes, a 37-year-old career criminal with a record spanning two decades, brandished a silver Magnum .357 revolver during an unhinged confrontation in Bedford-Stuyvesant early Feb. 20, 2016.
The Egg Harbor, N.J.. resident — who returned to his rowdy, drug-fueled ways after a divorce, his ex-wife told the Daily News — fired a shot from inside his Nissan Maxima near Quincy St. and Malcolm X. Blvd.
