Utah LEO fatally shot while attempting to arrest fugitive

PROVO, Utah — An officer was shot and killed while trying to apprehend a fugitive.

Provo Police Officer Joseph Shinners, 29, was shot Saturday night while trying to arrest a “dangerous fugitive” near a Bed Bath and Beyond 40 miles south of Salt Lake City, Fox Newsreports.

According to investigators, Shinners appeared to be able to return fire and hit the suspect. The suspect, a 40-year-old possibly homeless man, had recently made threats of violence against police officers at least once.
