DCSO arrests 18-year-old driver after Saturday night police chase

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase Saturday night.

Juan Carlos Velazquez, 18, was arrested and charged with failure to stop for blue lights, a weapons violation, possession of drug paraphernalia and drug/paraphernalia violations.

Around 11:19 p.m. on Oct 2, police heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Stratton Drive, near the Windsor Hill area. While investigating, deputies stopped a suspicious vehicle in the area. Read more here

Narcotics Unit Makes Arrest, Stolen Vehicle Recovered – StarChase Successfully Deployed

21-387 A Narcotics Unit observed a suspicious vehicle with no plates coming from a high narcotics location. Mobile surveillance was conducted on the vehicle until it stopped for gas. Upon contact, officers activated their emergency lights. The driver, who was pumping gas, fled on foot while the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat to flee in the car. Officers successfully deployed a StarChase Tag onto the back of the fleeing vehicle as it sped away. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the original driver. Officers were able to track and recover the fleeing vehicle, which was reported stolen out of a neighboring county, to a location where it was found abandoned. The second driver was later identified and a warrant for arrest has been issued.
