Hagerstown man charged in Martinsburg high-speed chase

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 29-year-old Hagerstown man is accused of leading police on a high-speed pursuit Sept. 21 in Berkeley County, traveling at more than 100 mph on U.S. 11 before crashing into a fence.

Dominique Antonio Whalen of West Washington Street was charged with reckless driving, carrying a deadly weapon, fleeing in a vehicle and having no insurance, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Whalen was being held Tuesday night in Eastern Regional Jail on $7,500 bond, according to jail and court records.

The incident began about 5:20 a.m. after Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Sheriff’s Deputy Ralph Pierce discovered a male sleeping in a blue, four-door vehicle parked in a dark area of Berkeley Plaza north of Martinsburg, according to a complaint filed against Whalen.
