Louisville police temporarily change pursuit policy in response to ‘increasing’ crime

By: Billy Korbin, Louisville Courier-Journal

In response to a “pattern of increasing violent crime,” Louisville Metro Police officers will now be able to pursue vehicles that have been confirmed stolen under a temporary change in department policy.

Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad sent a special order detailing the change to personnel on Friday. A copy of the memo that Conrad sent to personnel was obtained by the Courier Journal.

Under the new policy that takes effect immediately, Conrad said officers will be able to pursue vehicles if they have determined via MetroSafe that the vehicles were stolen.
