A DUI suspect led lawmen on an early-morning chase Wednesday that ended when he struck a woman who was in her yard.
Tuscaloosa County sheriff’s deputies received a call at 6:30 a.m. about a vehicle driving recklessly on Highway 82 traveling eastbound toward Northport, said Deputy Jason Powell. A deputy spotted the suspected vehicle in the area of Harper Road in Northport and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to pull over.
The chase was launched, and the pursuit continued eastbound on Highway 82 until the vehicle exited off onto University Boulevard and continued eastbound Alberta. It ended in the area of Third Street East where the suspect hit the woman in yard and went on to crash into her house and damaged three other parked vehicles, Powell said.
