VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sept. 26, 2011 – StarChase LLC, a company providing GPS tracking and pursuit management technology to law enforcement worldwide, announces that the technology deployment and research components of the company’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) grant, which began in the second quarter of 2011, is scheduled to conclude in the first quarter of 2012.

In late 2010, StarChase received a grant award from the NIJ to support the evolution of the company’s flagship product, the patented StarChase pursuit management technology, which allows an officer to tag and track a fleeing suspect vehicle. Under the grant, StarChase is deploying 40 pursuit management units for field research.

The units are being deployed to a variety of agencies, which will use the systems in a range of environmental conditions. Dr. Geoffrey Alpert, a Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina, will be evaluating and reporting to the NIJ on the collected data.

Dr. Alpert has been conducting research on high-risk police activities for more than 25 years, and has published more than 100 journal articles and 15 books. He recently completed two major studies funded by the NIJ on police officer decision making and police use-of-force.

Also under the grant, StarChase is improving its second-generation pursuit management system with an on-board air compressor, and exploring additional product benefits.
