STARCHASE ANNOUNCES GRANT AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF JUSTICE
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Oct. 26, 2010 – StarChase LLC, a company specializing in
tagging-and-tracking pursuit-mitigation solutions for the law-enforcement sector, has received a grant award from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
The award comes in the form of a cooperative agreement from the NIJ, and will support
the evolution of the patented StarChase pursuit-mitigation technology. The NIJ has agreed to fund over $380,000 for the project. This award will be monitored by a group of experts lead by Joe Cecconi, senior scientist at NIJ, who manages directed energy research programs which support less-lethal and pursuit-management portfolios for state and local agencies.
“This funding from NIJ will aid in development of additional capabilities, such as voice recognition technology, as well as ongoing field deployment and policy development within the law-enforcement community,” said Trevor A. Fischbach, president of StarChase.
“The StarChase solution is consistent with the movement in the law-enforcement industry toward less-lethal technologies and risk reduction,” added Fischbach. “We’re pleased to form this cooperative agreement with NIJ to aid in the advancement of the company’s innovative life-saving pursuit reduction product, and will continue to invest in improvements that support law enforcement’s public-safety mission.”
The StarChase pursuit-mitigation technology reduces risk to the public and law enforcement officers with the ability to tag and track a suspect vehicle during high-risk pursuit situations. Once the vehicle is tagged, the officer can fall back and coordinate a tactical “safe stop,” suspect-apprehension strategy with dispatchers who are tracking the suspect’s location through a secure, Internet-based mapping interface.
